1. \\#1-11\\ The Miracle
a. \\#1-2\\ Details - Why are all of these details given?
Because as Luke was writing, these details could be
verified. It has never been God’s plan to do His
work in a corner but openly where men can see and
verify it.
(1) Peter and John
(2) going into the temple
(3) a the Gate called Beautiful
(4) "ninth hour" - 3 PM
(5) to pray.
b. \\#2-3\\The man
(1) \\#2\\ born lame
(2) \\#Acts 4:22\\ - over 40 years old
(3) reduced to a beggar
(4) \\#3\\ asked Peter and John for alms
c. \\#4-7\\ Peter offered him something better than
money!
d. \\#7-8\\ Peter healed the man.
(1) As far as we know, this would be the first
healing miracle since the night of Jesus’ arrest
(Malchus \\#John 18:10, Luke 22:51\\.) That
would be around 2 months.
(2) This miracle and all of the miracles performed
by Jesus, the disciples, or the church were
done by the power of the Holy Ghost.
(a) There is no other power for even Jesus had
laid His power aside to come to earth.
(b) Are there miracles today? YES.
i. Healing miracles - YES.
ii. We do not NEED an apostle for a miracle
today for God has promised to answer
the prayers of every believer.
1John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we
have in him, that, if we ask any thing according
to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we
ask, we know that we have the petitions that we
desired of him.
e. \\#9-11\\ The effect
(1) \\#9\\ They saw.
(2) \\#10\\ They knew.
(3) \\#10-11\\ They were filled with wonder and
amazement.
f. \\#11\\ Solomon’s Porch

2. \\#12-26\\ The Preaching - Peter has a crowd and he was
not going to waste an opportunity. They need to be
informed and challenged.
a. \\#12\\ Peter started his sermon with something
contemporary (that is, happening right then).
b. \\#22-24\\ He gives a text later in the message
\\#Deut 18:15-19\\ and a vague reference to other
prophets.
c. \\#13-16\\ He told them about Jesus’ death, burial,
and resurrection.
d. \\#20-21\\ In this case, Peter told them where Jesus
had gone and that He would return.
e. \\#13-14\\ He demonstrated their sin.
f. \\#16, 19\\ He told them what they must do, "through
faith in his name" and "Repent."
g. \\#25-26\\ He gave encouragement.
3. At this point, it is probably needful to point out that
the type of preaching recorded in Acts has been
evangelistic preaching, preaching intended to win the
lost, not edification.
a. The intent of evangelistic preaching is to win the
lost.
b. The intent of edification is to encourage worship and
growth in the believer.
c. Other than that, there is little difference in the two
types of preaching. In fact, in most cases, all
sermons should be a mixture of the two types of
preaching.
