ocurred during the days of the celebration which started on
the first day of the seventh month.
    B. \\#Deut 23:3-4\\
    C. \\#3\\ The people immediately began to separate those who had
violated God’s law. This is the same thing that had been
done in Ezra 8-9 years earlier.
II. \\#4-14\\ Eliashib the high priest and Tobiah the Amorate
    A. \\#4-6, 10\\ "before this" - Before this was know a wicked
alliance was formed between Eliashib the high priest and
Tobiah, the enemy of Israel who wanted to compromise their

        1. \\#Neh 6:17-18\\ Tobiah was son-in-law to Shechaniah, a
            Jewish man apparantly highly regarded.
        2. \\#4\\ "having the oversight of the chamber" - Eliashib,
being the high priest, had oversight over all of the
temple, including the chamber used to store the offerings
to be given to the Levites and priests.
        3. \\#5\\ "where aforetime they laid the meat offerings" -
Eliashib gave that chamber to Tobiah for a residence. It
should be remembered that the chamber was inside the
temple and Toshiba was an Ammorite.
        4. \\#6\\ "two and thirieth year of Artaxerxes" - This all
happened twelve years after Nehemiah was appointed ruler
by Artaxerxes \\#Neh 2:1\\, at a time when he was called
back to Persia by the king.
        5. \\#10\\ "were fled every one to his field" - This had

        4. \\#11\\ Nehemiah held the leaders accountable. At one
time, the leaders of the city and nation were appointed
by him \\#Neh 7:2\\ and may have been his own brother.
        5. \\#12\\ The chambers were filled again.
        6. \\#13\\ It was at this time treasurers were appointed to
be certain this never happened again.
        7. \\#14\\ Nehemiah asked God for recognition of his good
deeds, no doubt prompted because of the grief he had to
endure in his effort to keep Israel right with God.
