The theme of this book is How Far Into Judaism Must A Person Go to Be Saved?

DIVISION OF THE BOOK
     I. Chapters 1-2 - A Defense of the Gospel
II. Chapters 3-4 - Understanding the Law
III. Chapters 5-6 - Walking in the Spirit

    I. \\#Gal 1:1-2:21\\ A DEFENSE OF THE GOSPEL
        A. \\#Gal 1:1-1:5\\ We worship a living God
            1. He has the power to direct our lives.
            2. He has the power to raise the dead.
            3. He has the power to deliver us from evil.
        B. \\#Gal 1:6-10\\ There is but one gospel.
            1. \\#1:6\\ An amazing thing had happened to this group of believers.
They had been "suddenly, dramatically" pulled away from the
                gospel. \\#1:6\\
            2. Note that they had truly "received" the gospel \\#1:9\\.
                a. The gospel is the death, burial, resurrection of Jesus.
                    \\#1Cor 15:3-4,2\\
                b. That being the only requirement for salvation, these Galatians,
at least in Paul’s mind, would be saved.
                c. Yet, they had been "suddenly, dramatically" pulled away from
                    the gospel. \\#1:6\\
                    1. I do not get this from the Greek but from Paul’s utter
amazement. These people had been suddenly and
                        dramatically moved.
                    2. Contrast this to \\#2John 1:4\\.

2Jo 1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we
have received a commandment from the Father.

                    3. What moves people from the gospel?
                        a. Any Christian can be moved whenever they leave the
plain teaching of the Word of God!
                            1. Steadfastness does not come with time alone.
                            2. Steadfastness does not come with understanding
                                along.
                            3. Steadfastness does not come with responsibility
                                alone.
                            4. Steadfastness comes from standing on the Word of
                                God.
                        b. Some move from the gospel for intellectual reasons.
                            1. The Bible does not give us an unintelligent
                                gospel.
                            2. In fact, science vindicates the Bible.
                                a. Shell fossils on the highest mountains.

Giant oysters on the mountain
by David Catchpoole

Whether or not you think of oysters as a gourmet delicacy, there’s something about
these fossilized giant oysters that attracts attention. Eye-catching not just for
their size—some measure up to 3.5 m (12 ft) across and weigh 300 kg (650 lb)—but also
for where they were found … high in the Andes Mountains!

About 500 of these gigantic fossilized oysters were discovered 4,000 m (13,000 ft)
above sea level in Huancavelica province, approximately 400 km (250 miles) south-east
of Peru’s capital city, Lima.1,2 But how could oysters have ever lived up there?

The answer is a world-wide, catastrophic flood like the one the Bible describes!

                                b. The world can't be as old as evolution claims
because the sun is losing its mass!

The sun loses 4,200,000,000 kilograms of mass every second. That is supposed to
be 4.6 million tons of mass per second. Some have suggested that if that figure
has been constant over the last few billion years, as would be necessary for the
world to have evolved, the sun would have been too large and too close to the
earth for life to have evolved.

                                c. Why do Uranus and Venus rotate backwards?
If all the planets were pitched into a similar orbits around the same sun, they
should have the same rotation, but these two planets rotate the other direction.

                            3. Not only is the gospel intelligent, evolution is
not. Christians have every right to expect an
                                intelligence from the evolutionists.
                                a. There are only two ways of the cosmos and life
                                    coming into existence.
                                    i. It evolved on its own.
                                   ii. Someone created it.
                                b. If you believe the cosmos and life just came
into being, you believe some unreasonable
                                    things.
                                    i. You must believe that something can come
                                        from nothing.
ii. You must believe that everything came from
                                        that something.
iii. You must believe that life can come from
                                        a thing.
                                c. No scientist (or sane thinking person) would
accept any of these as being intelligent!
                            4. No, the gospel is not unintelligent. Yet we are
not bound to believe only the things we can
                                understand. \\#1Cor 1:17-21\\
                        c. Some swap the gospel for a cult.
                            1. Watchman Fellowship lists over 1,000 cults in
their Index of Cults and Religions.
                            2. There is no better example of a people swapping
the gospel than Mormonism. (Mormonism started
when Joseph Smith supposedly received from God
                                and other heavenly beings).
                            3. Seemingly good people with angelic visions will
try to pervert the truth. \\#1:7-9\\
                                a. Visions of Mary mean nothing.
                                b. New revelations mean nothing.
                                c. Physics and their predictions mean nothing.
                                d. The messages of modern-day miracle workers
                                    mean nothing.
                                e. Only the written Word of God means anything
                                    at all!
                            4. Stick with the WRITTEN WORD.
                        d. Some, like these Galatians, just compromise the
                            gospel away.
                            1. \\#1:10\\ The Galatians were facing pressure
from religious leaders to compromise the truth
                                of Christ.
                            2. Sometimes, religious people can be the greatest
                                enemy of truth.
                            3. They use the respect we have for them as leverage.
                            4. Paul teaches the lesson that, sooner or later,
every faithful Christian will have to learn.
                            5. Namely, we can not please both men and God.
