How do you think it is going to end for the Jews? Thankfully, that
is not a question that our church would have to discuss for long, but
it is for a lot of people. Sadly, they just don’t believe the Bible.

God had been telling Judah since \\#Amos 2:4-5\\ that Jerusalem was
going to be destroyed and that Judah would fall. That would be more
than 150 years. To give you some perspective, 150 years ago would be
1864. In 1864, the northern army marched through Atlanta under the
direction of General William Sherman and continued his march to the
sea. That is a long time to wait for God to fulfill His Word, but as
we read Jeremiah 32, it is becoming obvious to the residents of the
city that the prophecy was at hand.
    1. \\#2\\ Babylon had besieged the city. (This would be the
        third defeat by Babylon.)
    2. \\#24\\ There were mounts being built against the walls, dirt
embankments so that the Babylonians might climb over the
        wall.

Now God changed things a bit. God did not change His mind about
what He was going to do. Jerusalem would fall and the people who do
not surrender will be killed by the sword, famine, and disease;
however, God did start to give future generations some hope.

That hope began in Jeremiah 29 when God sent word to the captives to
adapt to their new land for they would be there for 70 year. It
continued into chapters 30-31 where God told Jeremiah to write his
messages in a book for the future generations who would be returned
to the land and receive God’s blessings. Those promises continue
into chapters 32 and 33.

These are not really messages for the generation alive in Jeremiah’s
day. God knew that the would not repent and had degreed their death
sentences. No, these were messages for the displaced Jew, for the
persecuted Jew, for the afflicted Jew.

I know we are in the church age and that God has set the Jewish
nation aside to do His work through the church; but God has never
cast away His people—and He never will!

These are messages of comfort and hope to the Jews who are alive
today. What is that message?

    I. \\#Jer 32:1-15\\ God gave a "Symbol of Hope."
        A. There is little doubt in my mind that Jeremiah was
            confused.
            1. Jeremiah had been preaching that the day of judgment
was coming since long before Babylon arose in power.
                a. All during that time, people laughed at him.
                b. Some even tried to kill him.
            2. Now that they are beating on the walls of Jerusalem,
God began to have Jeremiah preach about a day of
                Jewish return.
                a. And guess what. The people are laughing at him
                    again.
                b. I imagine Jeremiah was thinking, "God, can’t I
just preach what is going on right now? Do I
always have to be out-of-sync? Do I always have
to be preaching about the distant future?"
                c. At this point, no one could see the prophecies of
                    Jeremiah EVER being fulfilled!
            3. Then God told Jeremiah, "Go by a field for your
                children."
                a. Even Jeremiah did not understand it.
                b. He begins to pray \\#Jer 32:16-25\\, but just get
                    the end of the prayer.

Jer 32:24 Behold the mounts, they are come unto
the city to take it; and the city is given into
the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it,
because of the sword, and of the famine, and of
the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is
come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.
25 And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy
thee the field for money, and take witnesses;
for the city is given into the hand of the
Chaldeans.

                c. Paraphrase - "With all of this, You are telling me
                    to go buy land?!?!"
        B. Why was God telling Jeremiah to go buy land?
            1. Because while God wanted to kill off a sinful
generation, He did not want to kill the hope of the
                nation.
                a. The land was theirs.
                b. The land would always be theirs—even when God
allowed other nations to posses it, live on it,
                    and control it.
            2. Jeremiah’s act was to give future generations hope.
            3. He was to purchase land and store the deed for
                future generations.
        C. Some thoughts:
            1. As long as there is life there is hope.
                a. God is all about hope.
                b. The last two things that God takes from a sinner
is his life and his hope.
                c. As long as you have life, you have hope and if
you lose hope, you will not want life.
                d. Sadly, some their life hoping that their sins can
                    go on forever.
                    (1) They cannot not and will not.
                    (2) Some hope that life does cease to exist and
that there is no God. Wasted hope.
                    (3) Others hope that God is so merciful and
loving that He will overlook their sins.
                         Wasted hope.
                e. The only way hope will do you any good is if you
                    hope in God’s way.
                    (1) What is God’s way?
                    (2) That takes me to another thought.
            2. As long as there is repentance, things can change.
                a. God’s way is that you would repent of your sins,
turn to His Son, Jesus, and live a changed life.
                b. Hope placed in any other possibility is wasted.
        D. So God told Jeremiah to buy the land that future
            generations might have hope.
        E. There is not a Jew on this planet who cannot turn to
this passage and have hope if they will turn to God’s
            way.

II. \\#Jer 32:26-27\\ God gave a "Declaration of Power."
        A. Just as the people had not been able to see how God could
destroy their city and nation, now they cannot see how
            God could restore it.
            1. So God must set the people straight.
            2. This is not so much for the present generation but
                again, for future generations.
            3. The Jews are in the land today—whether they will keep
it much longer or not I do not know.
            4. But beyond the 70 years of captivity the Jews were
about to experience, they would also experience…
                a. 500 years of occupation
                b. And 1800 years when they were again expelled from
                    the land altogether.
                c. And now they have lived another 66 years having to
fight for every inch of land they do have.
        B. The question God asked is a good question to think about.
            1. Is anything too hard, too difficult for God?
                a. The answer is a resounding no!
                b. Here is the God who created all things from
                    nothing.
                c. Here is the God who choose an impotent, old couple
and made a nation out of them.
                d. Here is the God who delivered a slave nation from
a world power and feed them in a wilderness for
                    40 years.
                e. Here is the God who used a weak army to overcome
                    seven established nations.
                f. Here is the God who made that nation a world power
and here is the God who had now humbled them.
                g. There is nothing our God cannot do!
            2. However, the word "hard" is translated "wonderful" in
                several other places.
                a. It is not just that God does the hard things.
                b. He does the wonderful things.
                c. Wonderful implies good beyond belief.
                d. God does the wonderful things.
        C. Then God went on to make two promises.
            1. \\#Jer 32:28-35\\ God promised that Babylon would
totally destroy the city of Jerusalem and conquer the
                nation.
                a. God gave several reasons for that promise.
                    (1) \\#Jer 32:30\\ the evil of the people
                    (2) \\#Jer 32:31\\ the wickedness done in the
                         city of Jerusalem
                    (3) \\#Jer 32:34\\ The evil committed in the
                         temple
                b. All of this had been told to the people on
                    numerous occasions.
            2. \\#Jer 32:36-44\\ God promised to restore the nation
to its former righteousness and glory.
                a. Some of this was fulfilled in just 70 years.
                    (1) \\#Jer 32:37\\ God promised to bring them
                         back into the land.
                    (2) They would be safe in the land.
                b. But most of it became an end time millennial
prophecy because the hearts of the people were
not yet ready to allow God to fulfill it.
                    (1) \\#Jer 32:38\\ The people would be God’s—
                         Not after rejected His Son.
                    (2) \\#Jer 32:39\\ The people would have one
heart—Not without a new heart being given
them and even then, it will take being
                          filled with the Holy Ghost.
                    (3) \\#Jer 32:40\\ God will not turn away from
them—Again, they have to accept His Son
                         first.

III. \\#Jer 33:20-26\\ God gave a "Promise of His Commitment."
        A. \\#Jer 31:35-36\\ God had already made a commitment like
            this to His people.
            1. He promised as long as there was a sun, moon, and
stars, Israel would be His people.
            2. This promise as a little variation in it but is
                essentially the same.
        B. \\#Jer 33:21\\ As long as there is day and night, God will
honor His covenant with David and the Levites.
            1. God had promised the line of David would always be on
                the throne.
                a. Of course there has not been a throne since
                    Zedekiah.
                b. Even today, there is no throne but a democracy.
                c. The only One who will sit on the throne now will
be Jesus, the son of David.
            2. God had promised the Levites will be His ministers.
                a. Again, I believe there will be sacrifices in the
millennium, not to atone for sin as much as to
celebrate what Jesus did to remove our sin.
                b. But it seems certain the Levites will have a place
                    to serve.
        C. But look at the commitment God has made to Israel.
            1. The sun, moon, and star will have to fall out of the
sky before God will abandon Israel or His promises
to give them a Messiah and an opportunity to worship
                Him.
            2. In other words, God will have to cease to be God.
                a. Whether Israel is in the land or not, God is going
to honor His Word to them.
                b. You can forget Replacement theology.
                c. You can forget God ever changing His mind.
                d. Israel is going to have the land, peace,
                    dominance, glory, and God!
                e. That is going to be the last, the longest, and the
                    eternal chapter of Israel’s history.

IV. \\#Jer 33:3\\ God gave a "Guarantee of Answered Prayer."
         A. This is one of the best know prayer verses in the Bible.
         B. Where is it located?
             1. In the heart of the Old Testament.
             2. In the heart of a section describing one of Israel’s
worst judgments. (The 1940’s was not Israel’s first
                 genocide!)
             3. Before the Jews were carried out of the land amd
                 before the walls fell.
         C. Why is it there?
             1. Because it is the Jews not the Gentiles.
             2. Because God wanted the Jews to know that at anytime
they would call upon Him, He would show them great
and mighty things which they could not imagine.
         D. All of these years of suffering and all they had to do
was turn to Him and ask for His help!
         E. One day, they will.

That is how it is going to end for the Jews and nothing and no one
can stop it or change it. The wise thing to do is to be on the right
side!
