John 2:1-11
God is Pro-Family

We have been studying the gospel of John for some time. At the very,
I told you it was a Declaration Gospel. Chapter was one a chapter of
declarations:
    1. \\#1:1-14\\ Declaration of Jesus’ Deity - He is the Word,
        God, Creator, Life, and Light.
    2. \\#1:15-18\\ Declaration that things are going to be
        different.
         a. When the Word came, He brought grace with Him.
             1. Grace was already here.
             2. But grace is going to be here more abundantly.
                 (1) \\#15\\ "…of his fulness we have all
                      received"
                 (2) "grace for grace"
         b. Even though grace was available in the Old Testament,
with the abundant grace, things were going to be
             different in the New.
             1. No more rituals (dress, food, worship, sacrifices,
                 days)
             2. No more bondage - All of the rituals were a bondage
                 to the worshippers.
             3. Most of the judgments were set aside too. The only
judgment that abides is the eternal one, "the wages
                 of sin is death."
    3. \\#1:19-51\\ Declaration to others
        a. \\#29-26\\ John stepped onto the scene preaching.
            1. John’s preaching was humble and hard.
                a. No miracles, no padded pews, no soft sermons
                b. In fact, John was the epitome of a hellfire and
                    brimstone preachers. He probably burned
                    everyone’s britches at some point.
                c. But he preached the Word of God - sin,
                    repentance, and ultimately salvation.
            2. Once more, John knew who the Messiah would be.
        b. \\#37-42\\ Some listened.
            1. \\#37\\ Some heard - Step of introduction and the
                first step to salvation!
            2. \\#38\\ Some followed - Step of curiosity
            3. \\#41\\ Some believed - Step of commitment

In chapter two, we come to a new section in John’s gospel. In this
section, we read the declarations of Jesus. In chapter one, we read
the declarations made ABOUT Jesus.

In truth, I see far more declarations in this miracle than I have
time to get to, so I will limit myself by mentioning only three.

    I. This miracle is a declaration that God supports the family.
        A. This is Jesus’ first miracle.
            1. This is an interesting occasion.
            2. Jesus’ first miracle was not about a national
disaster, a matter of sin, or even a personal
                illness.
            3. Jesus’ first miracle was about a wedding with too
                little to drink.
        B. Why? There is only one logical reason.
            1. God wanted to His support for the family.
            2. Someone is going to say, "It was just a coincidence.
            3. God did not produce the juice because the problem
came up. The problem came up because God wanted
                to produce the juice.
        C. The home was the first organization God created for man.
            1. Before government and the church, God created the
                home.
            2. Redefine the home all you want, but you cannot change
                what God created.
                a. It was a bond between a man and woman.
                b. It was to last a lifetime.
                c. It was to produce offspring.

II. This miracle is a declaration that God supports salvation.
        A. This is a unique miracle.
            1. There is not one mention of sin, of salvation, of
                illness, of death.
            2. Yet, I see salvation.
            3. How?
        B. Through the clay pots. Clay pots speak of mankind.
            1. Clay pots are formed from the dirt of the earth.
            2. Clay pots can become hardened and fragile.
                a. A drop a dried clay pot and it is destroyed.
                b. Damage a clay pot and it will bear the marks
                    forever.
                c. So has sin left mankind.
            3. A clay pot can carry evil or good.
                a. These pots contained water.
                b. Water is one of earth’s most natural resources.
(The 3/4’ of the earth is covered with water.)
                c. Did you know that human beings are largely water?

"Young adult men average about 55% to 60% water;
women average slightly less because they have
more fat, and a baby can be as much as 75% water.
These averages can vary from person to person or
even from different areas as climate or
environment changes."

            4. With a touch from Jesus, a clay pot can have it’s
                insides changed.
                a. This is the whole point of Jesus’ miracle.
                b. The clay pots with the natural water were changed
                    to hold wine.
                c. "Wine" means fruit of the vine and does not have
                     to be alcoholic.
                     (1) In fact, in this case, if it were, it would
ruin the whole point Jesus is making.
                     (2) Jesus wasn’t showing us that He can make us
                          more corrupt but more pure.
                     (3) The juice is the best part of the grape.
                     (4) Jesus filled the pots with the best there
                          was!
            5. What Jesus did for these clay pots, He wants to do
for each and every person here!
        C. Not only does this miracle picture salvation, it also
describes the elements necessary to bring salvation.
            1. \\#3-4\\ Mary had faith.
            2. \\#5\\ The servants obeyed.

III. \\#9-10\\ This miracle is a declaration that God saves the
        best for last.
        A. Granted, that was a declaration from those who drank the
juice, but who better to make a judgment on what God
does than those who have personally tasted of it.
        B. Everything that sin has ever touched will be better at
            the last.
            1. We are going to have a better world.
            2. We are going to have better bodies.
            3. We are going to have a better relationship with God.
            4. We are going to have a better eternity.
