\\#22:17-24:34\\ - Medium length proverbs
I. \\#24:1-2, 19-20\\ Dealing with Evil People
    A. \\#1-2\\ Do not admire the evil.
        1. Do not envy the them.
        2. Do want to be in their company.
        3. \\#2\\ Why?
            a. Because they study how to destroy.
            b. Because their minds are on mischief.
    B. \\#19-20\\ Do not worry because of the evil.
        1. \\#20\\ They will have no good reward.
        2. \\#20\\ Their candle (life) will be snuffed out.
    C. Other proverbs:
        1. Evil man’s nature:

Proverbs 17:11 An evil man seeketh only
rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be
sent against him.

Proverbs 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment:
but they that seek the LORD understand all
things.

        2. God is against the evil man.

Proverbs 3:31 Envy thou not the oppressor, and
choose none of his ways. 32 For the froward is
abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with
the righteous.

Proverbs 29:6 In the transgression of an evil
man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing
and rejoice.

Proverbs 23:17 Let not thine heart envy sinners:
but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day
long.
18 For surely there is an end; and thine
expectation shall not be cut off.

II. \\#24:3-4\\ The Spiritual Trio of Life
    A. The spiritual trio of life is wisdom, understanding, and
        knowledge.
    B. Life is pictured as a house.
        1. With these three, it is a strong house.
        2. With these three, it is a prosperous house.
    C. Other passages where you can find these three mentioned
        together:
        \\#Pro 1:2-4, 2:2-4, 2:5-6, 3:19-20, 8:12-14, 9:10\\.
    D. Along with the spiritual trio, the father has told his son
some other things which bring wealth.
        1. The Lord:

Pro 3:9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and
with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and
thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

        2. Diligence

Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with
a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh
rich.

        3. Right motives

Proverbs 23:4 Labour not to be rich: cease from
thine own wisdom.
5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not?
for riches certainly make themselves wings; they
fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

III. \\#24:5-6\\ True Strength
    A. The best strength is not physical strength.
        1. Wisdom
        2. Knowledge
    B. Get all of these two you can before making major decisions.

Proverbs 10:11 The mouth of a righteous man is a
well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of
the wicked.

Proverbs 10:20 The tongue of the just is as
choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little
worth.

Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people
fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there
is safety.

Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his
own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is
wise.

Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel purposes are
disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors
they are established.

Proverbs 20:18 Every purpose is established by
counsel: and with good advice make war.

IV. \\#24:7\\ Wisdom and the Fool
    A. Wisdom is too difficult for the fool to get (it’s over his
        head).
    B. His ignorance will leave him powerless in important affairs.

V. \\#24:8\\ Don’t Plan to Hurt
    A. A person who plans to do evil will get the reputation
        of being a hurtful person.
    B. Often young people do not understand the importance of a good
name nor how they ruin their own.

Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed:
but the name of the wicked shall rot.

Proverbs 18:3 When the wicked cometh, then
cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen
than great riches, and loving favour rather than
silver and gold.

VI. \\#24:9\\ The Ideas of the Wicked
    A. The fool’s thoughts are sinful.
    B. The scorner’s thoughts are an abomination.
    C. Another verse

Proverbs 15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an
abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure
are pleasant words.

    D. Other things that are sin for the wicked:
        1. His pride and labor:

Proverbs 21:4 An high look, and a proud heart,
and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

        2. His prayers:

Proverbs 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from
hearing the law, even his prayer shall be
abomination.

VII. \\#24:10\\ Quitters Never Win - Those who quit in troubled
      times were spiritually weak.

VIII. \\#24:11-12\\ Deliver the Innocent
    A. \\#11\\ If you do not deliver the innocent who are appointed
        to death…
        1. \\#12\\ …your excuses will not suffice…
        2. \\#12\\ …for the one who knows all things knows…
        3. \\#12\\ …and returns to everyone the reward of their
            works.
    B. Other verses:

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD
hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that
shed innocent blood,

IX. \\#24:13-14\\ Take the Good
    A. \\#13\\ Eat honey and the honeycomb because it is sweet and
        good for you.
    B. \\#14\\ So take in the knowledge of wisdom.
        1. (By implication) It is sweet and good for you.
        2. It will bring you a reward.
        3. It will cause your expectations (desires) to be fulfilled.
    C. The Bible hints at the medicinal quality of honey and kind words.

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are as an
honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the
bones.

X. \\#24:15-16\\ Pick Your Battles
    A. \\#15\\ Do not attack the home of the righteous.
    B. \\#16\\ You can’t keep a good man down.
        1. Seven is probably just a figurative number meaning no
            matter how many times.
        2. The wicked, however, will fall into trouble.

XI. \\#24:17-18\\ Do Not Gloat Over Your Enemy
    A. \\#17\\ Here is a glimpse of New Testament Christianity.
        1. Jesus teaches LOVE don’t HATE.

Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been
said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate
thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless
them that curse you, do good to them that hate
you, and pray for them which despitefully use
you, and persecute you;

        2. Be HUMBLE don’t GLOAT.
    B. \\#18\\ Implied in this verse is that God brings the good and
        the bad.
    C. \\#18\\ Also implied is that God gets involved and deals with
        the wicked.
    D. Plainly stated is that arrogance and gloating can stop the
work that God is doing on your behalf.

 XII. \\#24:21-22\\ Be Cautious
    A. Three admonitions are given:
        1. Respect the Lord.
        2. Respect the king.
        3. But do not join those given to changing things.
    B. There must be a connection, especially of the last TWO for
        they are paired in \\#22\\.
    C. Two counsels:
        1. Follow the Lord with no questions.
        2. Be cautious about joining a king (leader) who likes to
change things just for the sake of changing them.
        3. The REASON - Sooner or later, such an attitude will get
            you into trouble.

XIII. \\#24:23-26\\ Nuggets of Wisdom - These appear to be randomized
truths that the wise will live by.
    A. \\#23\\ Give justice without respect of person.
    B. \\#24-26\\ Do not call the wicked righteous.
        1. This is confusion.
            a. People will curse you for this.
            b. Nations (if you are a ruler) will hate you for it.
            c. REASON - Sooner or later, the wicked’s true nature
will come out against those you have falsely aligned
                with him.
        2. But to those who rebuke the wicked:
            a. Delight (joy)
            b. Good blessings (prosperity)
            c. \\#26\\ Love and respect
        3. Other verses:

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good,
and good evil; that put darkness for light, and
light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet,
and sweet for bitter!

Proverbs 17:15 He that justifieth the wicked,
and he that condemneth the just, even they both
are abomination to the LORD.

XIV. \\#24:27\\ Business First, then Comfort - The admonition is to
build of the fields and flocks before you build your house.

XV. \\#24:28-29\\ Treat Your Neighbor Right
     A. \\#28\\ Don’t lie against him.
         1. The admonition is not to bear witness against a neighbor
who has done wrong. We should not remain silent when
             evil is present.
         2. The admonition is do not bear witness against him
             WITHOUT A CAUSE or REASON.
         3. Deception is much like outright lying. In the most
technical sense, lying is speaking untrue words while
deception is using words to give a wrong impression.
             Both are wrong.

Pro 17:15 He that justifieth the wicked, and
he that condemneth the just, even they both
are abomination to the LORD.

Pro 19:9 A false witness shall not be
unpunished, and he that speaketh lies
shall perish.

Pro 14:25 A true witness delivereth souls:
but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
(Deception is lying.)

Pro 26:18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands,
arrows, and death,
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour,
and saith, Am not I in sport?

Pro 25:18 A man that beareth false witness
against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword,
and a sharp arrow.

    B. Don’t try to get even with him.
        1. Don’t try to treat a neighbor as he has treated you.
        2. This counsel is much like \\#Pro 24:17-18\\.
        3. It is a precursor to our New Testament principals.

Proverbs 20:22 Say not thou, I will recompense
evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save
thee.

XVI. \\#24:30-34\\ Beware A Little Laziness
    A. \\#30-31\\ The father passed by a field and vineyard that were
overgrown and in bad need of repair.
    B. \\#32-34\\ He took note of some things:
        1. Object lessons are all around us and we ought to take
            advantage of them.
            a. Jesus used common and everyday things to teach the
                multitudes.
            b. The Lord can teach us both by the good and the bad if
                we will allow Him.
        2. The owner was both lazy and foolish.
            a. Perhaps the father knew this for he certainly would
have known who owned the fields.
            b. Regardless, we see there is a relationship between our
character and the condition of our possessions.
            c. While we should not be consumed with worldly cares, if
we are going to possess them, we must guard our
testimony by caring for them properly.
        3. A little laziness will lead to poverty.
            a. \\#33\\ The emphasis is on the word LITTLE. It is not
that the person intends to do nothing but rather he
                intends to do it later.

Proverbs 6:10 Yet a little sleep, a little
slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that
travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

            b. \\#34\\ The end of the procrastinator is poverty.
